Events and Programs
Residents and members of the community-at-large look forward
to the many special events that occur at Breckenridge Village.
These include the following annual events.
- Our St. Patrick's Day Breakfast where it's a top o' the
mornin' as volunteers
from the police and fire departments join staff in
preparing and serving delicious pancakes and sausage to
the residents
- The Daffodil Sale,
where residents have baked goods, used books, furniture,
and household items on sale. Some great buys and a
great time are at this spring event.
- Our Volunteer luncheon honoring those who have accumulated
substantial volunteer hours and enjoying great food,
entertainment and delightful company.
- The Christmas Bazaar
is a greatly anticipated event throughout the area.
People line up outside waiting for the doors to open.
Crafts,
baked goods, a silent auction and many other treasures
await those who attend.
Resident-driven activities take place all over campus and
intra-campus bus service is available. The Residents Activities
Advisory Group is central to the village's planning process.
Our
wellness program offers fitness classes throughout the
campus. An exercise room with hydrafitness machines,
a massage
program and a Tai Chi class, are just some of the features
of this program.
Volunteering
at Breckenridge Village affords many residents opportunities
for meaningful
responsibility and ways
to meet new people. Our 425 volunteers netted more than 41,000
hours of service in positions from receptionist to recycler
to "baby-rocker" last
year.
Many social events are planned
by the staff and by residents. Included are coffee hours, trips,
games, video movies,
and entertainment programs.
Discussion
groups, creative writing, crafts workshops, BVTV13, the Beautification
Committee, and Care Card production,
are just some of the many programs available to residents to
discover and create beauty and significance.
Residents
at Breckenridge Village take advantage of numerous community-based
activities and programs including: YMCA senior programs; Lakeland
Community College programs and classes; Willoughby's Browning
Senior Center programs; and Lake Metroparks programs.
The
Christian Gospel is central to the spiritual opportunities
available on the campus. Bible studies are held on a regular
basis. On-campus worship brings clergy from several denominations
to the Lyons Chapel for communion with residents. Our full-time
Chaplain and residents plan worship for the campus weekly.
We are proud to have both a choir and an active Stephen Ministry
program. Transportation to a variety of local churches is
available on Sundays.
