Until there’s a
cure, the best treatment is Special Care
Living with someone with Alzheimer’s
disease can present some of life’s most
difficult challenges. With an
environment designed to help individuals
reach their fullest potential in
selfcare and daily accomplishments, our
Special Care Center can help your loved
one achieve a better quality of life
- and -
allow you to enjoy peace of
mind.
An environment that awakens
forgotten abilities
Our goal is to provide an environment
that supports the memory-impaired
person with a holistic
approach--prompting the use of remaining
abilities and reawakening forgotten
abilities.
With family support, we strive to
achieve this goal. This approach was
at the heart of creating our first
Special
Care unit in 1987. With an intimate
setting of just ten residents
and one staff member for each five
residents, we found that staff
members could form more beneficial
relationships and develop a
deeper understanding of each resident.
Since then, our Special Care Center has
received rave reviews from the families
of our residents. In fact, it was so
successful we decided to extend this
program to another ten residents, with
the same goals in our hearts. We then
added a new concept of care called the
Eden Alternative.
Introducing
the Eden Alternative philosophy
The Eden philosophy is a new way of
thinking that is strikingly simple.
Borrowing from
Mother Nature, the Eden Alternative
seeks to eliminate the three plagues of
long-term care--
loneliness, helplessness and boredom, by
infusing plants, companion animals, and
children to create a special human
habitat. The opportunity to care for
other living things and the variety and
spontaneity often succeed when pills and
therapies fail. Children are always
welcome at Park Vista. Youth from area
day care centers and schools
are frequent visitors, but at the Eden
Center children play a unique role.
Visiting grandparents
becomes an exciting experience when
children become participants in this
enlivened environment.

Park Vista than a visit to tour our
