The possibilities are endless …
The choices are yours. We believe in serving the whole person – physically, mentally and spiritually. We welcome persons of all faiths and believe in a spirit of inclusiveness. Your participation is welcome and your privacy will be respected.
At Park Vista, we bring in guests who present interesting programs on such subjects as travel, music and the arts, and on educational topics, which often result in lively discussions. We arrange trips to the Butler Museum of American Art, the Youngstown Symphony, the Youngstown Playhouse, fine restaurants and shopping malls, and to events held at Stambaugh and Powers auditoriums. Our close ties with nearby Youngstown State University provide additional opportunities for our residents. Here’s just a sampling of some of the activities available on our campus:
Breakfast Club
This lively group meets monthly, from fall to spring, offering a variety of interesting topics and speakers and a free brunch buffet. If you would like to be placed on a mailing list to receive notices of upcoming programs, please call (330) 746-2944, or contact pv@parkvista.oprs.org.
Gardening
Many residents enjoy watching or caring for our beautiful flower gardens and some have tried their hand at growing vegetables in special raised beds.
Gathering Room
With accommodations for up to 200 people, the Gathering Room is ideal for bringing cultural and educational presentations to our residents, and may be reserved for community events. It’s available for large gatherings of residents, senior groups and professional development programs. Just outside the Gathering Room is the Park Vista reading area.
Internet Café
Residents have access to high-speed Internet so that they may e-mail friends and relatives, or research their favorite topics. Assistance with computer/Internet use is provided by volunteers. The Café also offers a charming atmosphere for casual conversation over a cup of cappuccino.
Newsletter
The Courier is published four times a year with news and photos of residents and campus events, along with helpful information for seniors and caregivers. To receive the Courier, call (330) 746-2944, or contact pv@parkvista.oprs.org.
On-campus Conveniences
To meet the needs of our residents, a well-stocked library, a beauty/barber shop, and the Knicknackery, a store staffed by residents where personal items, greeting cards, or snacks may be purchased, are all located on our campus.
Private Dining Room
A beautiful private dining room is available for residents celebrating a family event or for meetings of small clubs and organizations.
Senior Center of Mahoning County
Conveniently located on the Park Vista campus, the Senior Center offers a variety of programs and classes, support services and social events for area seniors.
Stephen Ministry
The Stephen Ministry program provides comfort and encouragement to residents who may be experiencing distress or crisis. A Stephen Minister is a committed volunteer layperson who is specially trained to serve as a trusted friend to listen, reflect and provide support.
Volunteer Opportunities
Park Vista’s volunteer program serves as a vital communication link between Park Vista and the community. Our volunteers come from all walks of life and are offered a wide variety of rewarding opportunities from which to choose. Anyone considering volunteering – be it several hours a day or several hours a month – will find a schedule to accommodate their needs. For more information, call (330) 746-2944, or contact pv@parkvista.oprs.org.
Wellness Programs
Park Vista regularly provides programs that monitor the health of our residents and enhance strength, balance and overall physical fitness. Residents can take advantage of the Nautilus equipment located in the fitness center or participate in group exercise classes held three times a week.
Worship
Park Vista welcomes people of all faiths. Services are held several times a week in our beautiful ecumenical chapel. Sunday worship services feature many area clergy and lay speakers. Catholic Mass, Episcopal Eucharist, Holy Communion and memorial services are held regularly. In addition, transportation is provided to a local Catholic and Presbyterian Church on Sunday mornings. Park Vista’s full-time chaplain serves as a spiritual advisor to our residents encouraging them to continue in the faith of their choice and helping them to keep their pastors informed of the needs of their parishioners.
