Exploritas Day of Discovery

Park Vista Retirement Community will host a Day of Discovery program: The National Park Service: An American Legacy. This Exploritas program, created and developed by Elderhostel, will be held on March 30 from 9:15 AM – 12:30 PM in the Park Vista Gathering Room, 1216 Fifth Avenue Youngstown.

Exploitas is the new name for the programs of, Elderhostel Inc., a not-for-profit organization founded in 1975 to provide lifelong learning for adults. In 2008, Exploritas began to expand program opportunities within the retirement community networks of the United States.

“We believe that learning is a life-long process that takes place throughout life and in a range of situations,” said Brian Kolenich, Executive Director of Park Vista. “We are proud to offer this learning opportunity to our residents and to invite those in the community who are interested in this unique learning experience to join us.

“Many adults used to travel with the Elderhostel program, and still love seeking out new experiences, but the physical demands of travel prove greater than they care to deal with. It’s a story we often hear. The desire and intellectual capacity still exist, but the physical ability to travel any great distance just isn’t there anymore. Day of Discovery programs were created for just that reason. They are a wonderful way to scratch the academic “itch” and to help Park Vista fulfill our mission to enhance the physical, mental and spiritual well-being of older adults.”

The National Park Service: An American Legacy program examines the American invention of national parks, it’s heroes and defenders and explores the current trends and future of our parks.

The cost of the program is $46 which includes lunch following the program and parking. All registrations for the program are handled through Exploritas.
