At Westminster-Thurber, a variety of programs take place on and off our campus. Regularly scheduled activities and special offerings provide Westminster-Thurber residents with many options from which to choose. Here’s just a sampling of some of the activities available on our campus:
Educational Offerings
The Ohio State University is just one of the many area universities and colleges that bring programming to Westminster-Thurber's campus, as well as offering their own on-site program for older adults. The OWLS program schedules college level courses throughout the month of October. Community leaders are regular visitors updating our residents on city, state and national events. A fully equipped computer room with instructional classes provides residents with easy access to the Internet and computer programs.
Health and Fitness Programs
Basic and advanced exercise classes are held six times a week and a fully equipped exercise room is open 24 hours a day. The roof-top swimming pool is open to all residents and their families throughout the summer season, and offers summer water aerobics classes. Guest speakers from local hospitals and universities, as well as Westminster-Thurber's own health care professionals, provide an array of presentations and topics related to health and wellness.
Spiritual Life Program
Our community places great importance on the spiritual life of our residents. A beautiful chapel helps to support our spiritual life program by providing an area for interdenominational worship. In addition, our spiritual life program offers a full-time chaplain, weekly services on Wednesdays and Sundays, Bible study groups, and the Stephen Ministry, which is comprised of volunteer laypeople who are specially trained to provide comfort and encouragement to residents who may be experiencing distress.
Volunteers
Volunteers are important to our campus. Volunteer hours are flexible and may be arranged to accommodate busy personal schedules. We invite you to learn how you can make a difference in our residents' lives. Volunteer opportunities include:
- Friendly visitors
- Escorts
- Wheelchair transports
- Entertainers
- Program assistants
Other Amenities and Programs
Westminster-Thurber offers a craft room, woodworking shop and two libraries. Each of these recreational areas is open to all residents. The Victorian Room offers restaurant-style dining for residents and their guests. In addition, a full calendar of events features many opportunities for social interaction.
